FAQs keep you coming back
In most situations, the patient, family member(s) and/or Power of Attorney (POA) will be informed by a doctor, social worker, or other health care professional that home care services will be required in order for the patient to safely live independently in their home. Once this occurs, a care manager will provide direction on where to go for those services or arrange for a licensed home care agency to commence service.
A state-licensed home care agency is required to meet specific standards for safety purposes. Even though costs may be a factor in your decision, making it is important to understand that using the services of a licensed agency ensures that the aides and/or nurses who are working with you or a loved one have been trained, certified/licensed, bonded, and criminally checked and have an up-to-date medical history. Licensed agencies have to meet specific standards that are geared to protect patients.
Do research on your own to ensure that the home care agency offers the services that meet your needs. Look at their website, search the agency on the internet to see if there are any reviews or comments, and check with the Better Business Bureau. You also can ask the agency for references. Sunshine Home Health hires certified home health aides, registered nurses and certified occupational and physical therapists. Sunshine Home Health provides their home health aides with ongoing in-service training throughout the year, which ensures that the aides are current in-patient care techniques.
Once a patient is assigned to Sunshine Home Care, a nurse will visit the patient to complete an initial assessment, which determines the services that will be included on the Plan of Care (POC). The Start of Care, which is the first home health aide visit, is supervised by a nurse to ensure that the aide is completely familiar with all that is required for the patient’s care. The nurse will then make four follow-up visits throughout the year to gauge the patient’s progress and make adjustments to the POC as needed.
Under certain circumstances, Medicare and Medicaid will cover services from certified home health aides, skilled nurses and occupational and physical therapists. In addition, many private insurance plans offer coverage for home care services. Sunshine Home Care accepts payments for services through private pay arrangements as well as Medicaid Long Term Care (MLTC), long-term care insurance, and most medical insurance plans.
